Boshemia Presents — What Else Are We Mad At?

“Boshemia Magazine brings you “What Else Are We Mad At?” – a podcast where we discuss the petty grievances and major conundrums of modern life. Grab a drink with your three new besties and stay mad.”

To celebrate the launch of their brand new podcast, we caught up with our friends E, Q & L – founders of Boshemia Magazine – who you may remember from our Play. Create. Innovate LIVE Piazza back in April.

Firstly, what was your inspiration for What Else Are We Mad At, and how did you come up with the idea?

A podcast has been on the books for a LONG time now, but recently we were having discussions about what the next stage of growth looks and feels like for us and the time felt right to revisit the idea. ‘What else are we mad at?’ is us poking fun at ourselves really. It’s a riff on a  phrase we often say to each other when we’ve been ranting about something on a call – usually who else are we mad at? – and it’s very tongue-in-cheek.

What can we expect from the first episode?

Silliness, seriousness, petty rants, and genuine critiques on the state of things, with a healthy dollop of love and laughter. Sometimes we’re mad at the establishment, and sometimes we’re just mildly pissed that our local McDonald’s didn’t have any Diet Coke in our time of need. We got range, baby.

Do you have a favourite moment?

L – The moment I introduced these two to the concept of local Bristol celebrity Mr Exclusive. It was everything.

Q – Mr Exclusive was honestly a riot. I’m also in love with the little discussion we had about the movie Old - the film about the beach that makes you old.

E – When Q said to me, “how is this the first time we are hearing of this?” when I explained that I brought a tuna sandwich to the cinema to see Old.

How often can I get my fix?

Fortnightly on a Thursday, starting from Thursday 26 August 2021.

Who’s your dream podcast guest?

L – Mr Exclusive, for sure. I want to know that man’s story.

Q – Mrs Exclusive. As a feminist, I’m so interested to hear more about the women behind the famous men in history. In all seriousness, I’ve been a long time podcast fan, and I know that if we can get Paul F Tompkins on the pod, then we’ve made it.

E –  Local LA celesbian Kristen Stewart. I think she’d like us.

So, the podcast is all about stuff you’re mad about, but what’s one thing you’re each LOVING right now?

L – Can I say myself? I’m currently loving my garden. I’ve become an amateur gardener over the past year, and this year I’ve got a huge crop of vegetables – an abundance of courgettes, Chantenay carrots, tomatoes, lettuces, kale, jalapeños, sweet orange peppers, globe artichokes, and a few wayward strawberries. The slowness of it is just delicious to me, and it’s been joyfully grounding.

Q –  I'm obsessed with The Linda Linda's. They are so talented and sound so fresh despite their slight dated influences. I also love that their website is hosted by Wix. I'm also really enjoying the free bass lessons that our podcast producer is giving me.

E – My girlfriend recently introduced me to the brilliant youtube channel called PBS Space Time. So I’ve been spending my evenings learning in-depth about our universe and it makes me so happy. My favorite thing I’ve learned lately is that we are constantly redefining the concept of oceans. Did you know that Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, has flowing liquid methane on its Earth-like surface? And Neptune, as an ice giant, has water-ice and hydrogen “oceans” that totally defy our understanding of what an ocean can be? Casually but enthusiastically studying our own little corner of the solar system stretches my mind in sublime ways.

Other than the Podcast, what’s new with Boshemia Mag and what can we expect for the second half of the year?

We just launched OUT, a mini zine, which was actually due to be published in March 2020 (ha ha ha). So that’s available to order now, and in the autumn we will be releasing our next full-length magazine, themed DISTANCE. We’re actually taking submissions for this edition now, so if you’re a creative person come and submit something!

Anything else you want to share with the HD community?
(Could be anything from a request or offer to a guacamole recipe)

We’re still waiting for Simona’s tagliatelle recipe!

In all seriousness, we would love to hear from writers, poets, artists and illustrators for our submission callout for DISTANCE.
